At the Diaspora Solution Group Nigeria (DSGN), our mission has always been clear: to drive innovative, sustainable solutions that improve the lives of Nigerians at home and abroad. Today, we are proud to introduce one of our most transformative scientific initiatives yet the Malaria Attenuation Project.
This project represents our firm commitment to helping Nigeria overcome malaria once and for all by addressing the disease at its root: the female Anopheles mosquito.
Why We Are Launching This Project
For decades, malaria has remained one of Nigeria’s deadliest health challenges. While progress has been made, millions remain at risk. At DSGN, we believe Nigeria is ready for a bolder, science-driven approach one that goes beyond treatment and prevention to tackle the problem at a genetic and biological level.
That vision led to the creation of the Malaria Attenuation Project, a groundbreaking initiative that will officially launch on December 20, 2025, at Aloha Hotel & Resort in Osogbo, Osun State.
Our Research Focus: Targeting Mosquito Breeding at the Genetic Level
Under the research title “Research to Curb Female Anopheles Mosquito Breeding,” our team led by distinguished experts Dr. Emmanuel O. Emenike and Dr. Olof Olsson is advancing a new scientific pathway for malaria control.
We are applying precise CRISPR-based genetic correction techniques in a controlled laboratory environment. Our objectives are:
- To genetically modify female Anopheles mosquitoes so their population growth is significantly reduced.
- To disable their ability to transmit Plasmodium, the parasite responsible for malaria.
This method is a huge step forward in the global malaria fight and places Nigeria at the forefront of health innovation.
As Dr. Emenike affirms,
“Our goal is to harness the power of genetics to address one of Africa’s most persistent public health challenges. This project marks a major step toward eliminating malaria through safe, scientifically proven methods uniquely designed for Nigeria.”
Our Commitment to Safety and Environmental Responsibility
At DSGN, safety is non-negotiable. Our approach is:
- Species-specific
- Geo-targeted, and
- Environmentally safe
This ensures that no non-target organisms or ecosystems are harmed in the process. Every step of the research is built around international scientific standards and ethical guidelines.
Strengthening Local Capacity Through Partnership
The Malaria Attenuation Project is not just a research program it is a national-scale movement built through strong partnerships. We are proud to work with local collaborators including Sickle Cell Warriors and Troptions Unity Token.
Together, we are strengthening Nigeria’s scientific capacity, building long-term research infrastructure, and deepening collaboration between Nigerian experts at home and those across the diaspora.
The project is fully aligned with the goals of the National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP), further reinforcing its national relevance and impact.
